Plastic surgeon Siim Simmo: “A couple came to a consultation – she wanted smaller breasts, while he wanted them larger. It ended in a huge argument…”

In an interview published in Clinic, a special supplement to Eesti Ekspress, plastic surgeon Siim Simmo describes an unusual reason for refusing to perform surgery. “A couple came to a consultation. The woman wanted smaller breasts, while the man wanted them larger. A huge argument broke out, so I refused to operate,” Dr Simmo recalls. “I asked the man to leave because they began arguing in my office. The couple later separated as well.” According to Dr Simmo, another common reason for refusing breast surgery is that he considers the patient’s breasts ideal, particularly when the patient is very young. “If I see no reason to enlarge or reduce them, I do not perform the operation,” he says. “In such cases, especially when the woman comes with her partner, I often think that they simply do not realise how generous nature has been to her. I cannot bring myself to operate. Some people also want a facelift at the age of 30, which is simply not appropriate. I have also refused to perform eyelid surgery when it is clear that the operation would not produce a meaningful result.”
