Breast implants do not last forever, but they do not need to be replaced at fixed intervals. The need for replacement depends on their condition and the patient’s wishes and expectations. The aim is to remove implants that are no longer suitable or desired and replace them with new implants that better suit the patient’s body. Where necessary, the capsule and implant pocket are also corrected to achieve a soft, symmetrical and natural-looking result.
The operation usually lasts one or two hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. During the operation, the existing implant is removed and the condition of the capsule and surrounding tissues is assessed. Where necessary, the implant pocket or implant position is corrected before a new implant of the appropriate size and shape is inserted. The precise extent of the incision may be determined during surgery once the doctor can assess the actual condition of the tissues. After surgery, the patient remains at the clinic overnight for observation and monitoring for bleeding or fluid accumulation.

The operation is performed under general anaesthesia. The patient remains at the clinic overnight for observation to support a safe initial recovery.
Swelling and moderate discomfort may occur after surgery and usually subside within a few days. You can return to work after three to seven days, depending on the extent of the surgery and how you feel. Strenuous physical activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for approximately four weeks. Depending on the type of stitches used, they are either removed after four or six days or dissolve on their own. A support bra should be worn for at least four weeks. The breasts settle into their final shape and position within two to three months.
