Liposuction is performed through small incisions of up to 4 mm in the armpit or along the inner upper arm. A fine cannula is used to remove fatty tissue by suction while maintaining a smooth, even surface beneath the skin. The procedure takes approximately 60 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. Where skin elasticity is reduced, liposuction can be combined with an arm lift to create a smoother result.
During the consultation, we will assess skin elasticity and fat tissue distribution. Where the skin is sufficiently firm, liposuction alone produces an excellent result. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. General anaesthesia is used when it is combined with other surgery. The patient can go home on the same day.
Compression sleeves are worn after the procedure to reduce swelling and support skin retraction. Swelling and bruising subside within ten days. You can return to work after a few days and resume strenuous physical activity after approximately four weeks. The final result becomes visible within four to six weeks, once the swelling has fully subsided.
Side effects are generally mild and temporary and include swelling, tenderness and minor bruising. In rare cases, skin unevenness or changes in sensation can occur. The procedure is safe when the doctor’s instructions and the guidance on wearing compression garments are followed.
