Fat is collected by liposuction from a suitable area, such as the abdomen, thighs or flanks, and then purified and processed under sterile conditions. The processed fat is injected into the buttocks layer by layer using a fine cannula to create a smooth, naturally shaped result. The procedure takes up to three hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. As the patient’s own cells are used, the risk of an allergic reaction is minimal.
During the consultation, we will assess the amount of fatty tissue available, skin elasticity and the anatomy of the buttocks. Together, we will discuss the shape and volume that best suit the body’s proportions and how much fat can realistically be transferred. The operation is performed under general anaesthesia. After a short observation period, the patient can go home on the same day or the following day.
A compression garment is worn after surgery to reduce swelling and support the integration of the transferred fat cells. During the first few days, you should avoid sitting upright and sleeping on your back to reduce pressure on the transferred fat. Swelling and bruising subside within three weeks; the final result develops within three to six months. You can return to work after approximately ten days, depending on the extent of the procedure and how you feel.
Temporary swelling, tenderness and mild discomfort are common. In rare cases, more fat than expected can be reabsorbed; an additional fat transfer can then be performed. To reduce the risk of complications, it is important to follow the doctor’s instructions on rest, movement and sitting restrictions.
