Liposuction

Purpose of the procedure

Liposuction is an effective way to remove localised fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. It is most commonly performed on the abdomen, flanks and hips, where fat may accumulate because of genetic or hormonal factors. The aim is not weight loss but to improve body proportions and restore a natural silhouette. Course of the procedure

During the procedure, small incisions are made and a thin cannula is inserted through them. Fatty tissue is removed using suction while preserving the smoothness of the skin and the body’s natural contours. We use a modern fine-cannula technique that allows for a delicate, precise result with minimal bruising and a lower risk of unevenness beneath the skin. Liposuction can be performed on the following areas:

• the abdomen and flanks
• hips and upper thighs
• the back and lower back
• the upper abdomen and waist

Where necessary, liposuction may be combined with a tummy tuck or thigh lift to achieve a smooth, balanced result.

Consultation and preparation

During the consultation, we will assess your skin elasticity, the thickness of the fatty tissue and your body proportions. The extent of the procedure will then be determined, and the expected results, recovery, risks and aftercare will be discussed. Liposuction is not a weight-loss method. It is a body-contouring procedure intended for people who have already reached their desired weight.  How to prepare for your consultation

Anaesthesia

Liposuction is performed:

• under local anaesthesia when treating smaller areas;
• under general anaesthesia when several areas are treated at the same time.

Patients can usually go home on the day of the procedure. After more extensive surgery, an overnight stay for observation may be recommended.

Recovery and aftercare

• Swelling, tenderness and bruising may occur during the first few days and subside within one to two weeks.
• Compression garments should be worn for three to four weeks to reduce swelling and support the skin as it contracts.
• You can usually return to work after three to five days, depending on the extent of the procedure.
• Strenuous exercise and massage should be avoided during the first month.

The final result becomes visible within two to three months, once the tissues have healed and the swelling has subsided.

Possible side effects and risks

Liposuction is a safe procedure, but as with any surgery, side effects may occur. These may include:

• Swelling and bruising
• Unevenness or changes in skin sensitivity
• Infection or fluid accumulation in rare cases

Patients are also monitored after the procedure to support a smooth recovery and an even result.
