Neck liposuction is performed through small, barely visible incisions, usually beneath the chin or behind the ears. A fine cannula is used to remove excess fat by suction while maintaining a smooth surface beneath the skin and a natural contour. The procedure takes about 30–60 minutes and is generally performed under local anaesthesia. Where necessary, liposuction can be combined with a neck lift or facelift to achieve an even, natural-looking result.
During the consultation, Dr Simmo will assess skin elasticity and the distribution of fatty tissue. Where the skin has sufficient elasticity, liposuction alone can produce an excellent result. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia. General anaesthesia may be used when the procedure is combined with other surgery. The patient can go home on the same day.
After the procedure, a special elastic or compression bandage is worn to support healing and reduce swelling. Mild swelling and bruising usually subside within five to ten days. You can return to work after a few days, depending on how you feel. The final result becomes visible within four to six weeks, once the swelling has fully subsided and the contour has settled.
Side effects are usually mild and temporary and may include swelling, tenderness and minor bruising. In rare cases, changes in skin sensation or unevenness may occur. These can be corrected where necessary.. The procedure is safe when performed by an experienced surgeon and when the recovery instructions are followed.
