Thigh lift

Purpose of the procedure

A thigh lift removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the inner or outer thighs, giving the legs a smoother, slimmer appearance. The procedure is suitable for people who have developed loose skin and thigh chafing following weight loss or as a result of ageing. The aim is to restore firm, balanced body contours and improve everyday comfort. “A thigh lift does more than change appearance – it restores ease of movement and confidence in the body.” – Dr Simmo

Course of the procedure

During the operation, loose skin and, where necessary, fatty tissue are removed. The incision is usually made in the groin creases or on the inner thigh, so that the scars remain hidden. The tissues are lifted upwards and tightened, restoring the thighs’ natural firmness and smooth contour. The procedure takes two to three hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. Where there is also excess fatty tissue, a thigh lift can be combined with liposuction to improve the overall result.

Consultation and preparation

During the consultation, we will assess skin elasticity, the condition of the tissues and thigh proportions. We will discuss whether an inner, outer or combined incision is most suitable and whether liposuction is needed. The location of the scars, the healing time and the expected result will also be explained.  How to prepare for your consultation

Anaesthesia

A thigh lift is performed under general anaesthesia. The patient stays at the clinic overnight for observation.

Recovery and aftercare

Compression garments are worn after surgery to reduce swelling and support tissue healing. Swelling and bruising are common and subside within two to three weeks. The stitches are removed after 10–14 days. You can return to work after approximately three weeks and resume more strenuous exercise after six to eight weeks. The final result develops over three months, once the swelling has fully subsided.

Possible side effects and risks

Temporary swelling, bruising and tenderness are common. In rare cases, wound discharge, changes in skin sensation or uneven scarring can occur. Smoking and strenuous physical activity should be avoided during healing so that the scars remain fine and pale.

Good to know!

  • A thigh lift is often combined with an abdominoplasty or butt lift to achieve a balanced, natural-looking result.
  • The best result is achieved when body weight remains stable and skin elasticity is preserved.
