Lower blepharoplasty

Drooping upper eyelids can make the eyes appear tired and restrict the field of vision. Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin and restores a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Drooping, heavy upper eyelids can make the face appear tired and cause eye strain and headaches. Upper eyelid surgery, or upper blepharoplasty, removes excess skin and, where needed, fatty tissue, restoring a more open, youthful and approachable appearance. The result is a more open eye area, a fresher appearance, and less eye fatigue. If excess skin restricts the field of vision, surgery may also improve it.
Upper eyelid surgery takes approximately 45 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. The incision follows the natural eyelid crease, and the wound is closed with a fine intradermal stitch that is removed after five to seven days. The scar is barely noticeable and becomes virtually invisible within a few weeks. As excess skin and fat are removed, the result is long-lasting. A cold compress is applied to reduce swelling and support healing.
During the consultation, Dr Simmo will assess the position of the upper eyelids and eyebrows, skin elasticity and the distribution of fatty tissue to determine the most suitable approach. The consultation can take place in person at the clinic or remotely by email using photographs. Combined treatments, such as injectables or a brow lift, can also be considered to achieve a more natural, balanced result. How to prepare for your consultation
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The patient remains awake but feels no pain. You can go home the same day, and recovery is quick.
Moderate swelling and bruising can occur during the first few days and subside within one week. The stitches are removed after five to seven days. Most patients can return to work after five to seven days, depending on recovery. Strenuous physical activity and exercise should be avoided for at least two weeks. The skin around the eyes must be kept clean. Cosmetics and direct sunlight should be avoided during the first few weeks. If redness, discharge or discomfort occurs, take a photograph and send it to the clinic. The doctor will assess it and provide specific instructions. The final result develops within approximately one month, once the tissues have fully healed.
Complications are rare, and most patients recover without problems. Temporary swelling, bruising, dryness or slight asymmetry can occur. All potential risks and the measures used to reduce them will be discussed during the consultation. In rare cases, corrective surgery can be required if the skin is very loose or healing is uneven.
Upper eyelid surgery does not affect vision. However, it often improves the field of vision and noticeably reduces eye fatigue. The result is long-lasting – generally ten years or more, depending on skin elasticity and lifestyle. Both eyes are treated during the same procedure to ensure symmetry and a natural-looking result.
