Brow lift

Purpose of the procedure

A lowered brow and loss of firmness in the forehead can make the face appear tired or sad even when the person feels well. Sagging of the forehead and brow area often begins after the age of 40 and may contribute to drooping upper eyelids, a reduced field of vision and tension headaches. Course of the procedure

FOREHEAD LIFT A forehead lift smooths forehead wrinkles and raises the eyebrows. The procedure is often combined with a facelift but can also be performed on its own.

• The incision is made along the hairline or within the scalp, where the scar remains concealed.
• The skin and deeper tissues are tightened towards the eyebrows, smoothing forehead wrinkles and restoring the forehead and brows to a natural position.
• The result is a more open, rested appearance without an overly tight look.

BROW LIFT A brow lift is often combined with upper eyelid surgery, particularly where the brows have drooped significantly and require additional support.

• The incision is made within the hair at the temples or along the eyebrow, making the resulting scar barely noticeable.
• Patients may not always realise that a brow lift is needed. The surgeon assesses this based on facial anatomy and muscle tone.
• Brow lifts are also performed on men, particularly where heavy brows restrict the field of vision. Dr Simmo carefully considers facial proportions and preserves a natural, masculine appearance.

Consultation and preparation

During the consultation, Dr Simmo will assess the position of the eyebrows, forehead and upper eyelids, as well as skin elasticity. Together, you will discuss whether the most suitable option is:

• Brow lift alone
• Combined forehead lift and upper eyelid surgery
• Anti-wrinkle injections before surgery to assess the role of muscle activity

Anaesthesia

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia or light general anaesthesia, depending on its extent and the patient’s preferences. You can usually go home on the same day.

Recovery and aftercare

• Swelling and bruising may occur during the first few days and subside within about one week.
• The stitches are normally removed after four to six days.
• The scars are concealed within the hairline or along the eyebrows and become barely noticeable within a few months.
• You can return to work after five to seven days.

The final result develops over two to three months, once the tissues have fully healed.

Possible side effects and risks

A forehead or brow lift is a safe procedure, but as with any surgery, possible side effects include:

• Slight asymmetry
• Swelling or bruising
• Poor scar formation
• In rare cases, changes in nerve sensation

Particular care is needed when treating men, as raising the eyebrows too much can create an unnatural appearance. All risks and realistic expectations will be discussed thoroughly during the consultation.
